Toyota is gearing up to launch its 2024 Toyota RAV4 in the Indian market. Recently, the vehicle was observed undergoing tests in Pune, equipped with numerous LiDAR sensors for light detection and ranging.
These sensors are being used by the company to assess self-driving technology on busy roads. It’s worth mentioning that testing of the Toyota RAV4 has been underway in India since 2020 and has been sighted on multiple occasions since then.

The primary use of LiDAR sensors is primarily for real-time object detection and distance measurement accuracy. These sensors excel in tracking distant objects, complementing radar’s short-range object tracking and working based on images from multiple cameras.
Through this, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is collecting data from Indian traffic situations to test or develop self-driving algorithms.
