Kia Motors has introduced its Kia Carens MPV in the Indian market in January last year. Now the company is recalling 30,297 units due to a defect in the digital instrument cluster.
Kia India will contact owners of affected vehicles through its dealerships. Later the company will check these vehicles and also update the software free of cost if required.

Kia Carens recalled
According to the information, about 30,297 units of Kia Carens manufactured between September 2022 and February 2023 are suspected to have a defect in the digital instrument cluster, due to which it is not working properly.
Because of this, Kia has issued a recall for all its Carens made during this period. The company will fix this problem through software update. This is the second time that Kia is recalling this vehicle.
Carens was recalled last year as well
In October last year, the company had recalled 44,174 units of the Kia Carens due to a defect in the Airbag Control Unit (ACU). Let the ACU determine whether or not to deploy an airbag during a crash.
The cover of the ACU could have come in contact with its memory chip and this could have damaged the electric circuit. Due to this, there could be a problem in the opening of the airbags during the accident.
How Kia Carens look?
The Kia Carens comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED taillamps with a thin light strip in the middle, and integrated turn signals on the ORVMs.
Also, it has macular bonnet structure, integrated LED Day-time Running Lights (DRLs), wide central air intake under the bumper make its look more spectacular.
It has a longest wheelbase of the segment has been given in Cairns. Its wheelbase is 2780mm. Its length is 4540mm, width 1800mm and height 1700mm.
Carens MPV comes in three engine options
The Carens is offered with 1.5-litre petrol, 1.4-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel powertrains. The petrol engine generates power between 115hp to 140hp, while its diesel engine generates power of 115hp.
It gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, fully digital instrument cluster, push-button start-stop, cruise control, sunroof, ventilated front seats and 64 colors of ambient lighting.
What is the cost of this vehicle?
Kia Carens prices in India start at Rs 10.45 lakh for the base Premium (Petrol) model and go up to Rs 18.9 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom) for its range-topping Luxury Plus trim.
Recall policy was implemented in 2021
In 2021, the Ministry of Transport amended the Motor Vehicles Act (1988) to make recall policy mandatory for vehicle companies, which was implemented from April 1, 2021.
According to this, manufacturers will have to compulsorily issue a vehicle recall if a defect is found in the vehicle. If a company refuses to recall, it can be fined from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
