The adjustable steering wheel features both tilt and telescopic steering. That is, like a telescopic wheel, they can be moved forward and backward, whereas like a tilt, they can also be moved up and down.

It works with the help of an electric motor or compressor lock instead of steering column-wheel arch technology. This steering wheel is used in vehicles like Mahindra XUV700, Tata Harrier and Tata Safari available in the country.

Ford first introduced the swing-away steering wheel in its luxury car Thunderbird in 1961. It was designed to allow the driver to easily get in and out of the vehicle.

This steering wheel could be moved up to 9 inches to the right during parking. At present this steering wheel is not used in any vehicle, but it was liked a lot by the customers in old vehicles.

Modern vehicles use rack and pinion steering wheel systems, which are enclosed in a type of metal tube with the rack ends protruding.
The steering wheel is connected to these racks with the help of a pinion.

The wheels of the vehicle are also connected to this rack and as the direction of the rack changes through the steering wheel, the direction of the vehicle also starts changing.
