India car manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has set a sales record of Mahindra Thar in the domestic market. The company has sold 1 lakh units of this vehicle in just 29 months.
Thar is one of the best off-roading cars available in the country. This is the reason why currently there is a waiting period of 17 months on this model.
Mahindra Thar launch timeline
Mahindra Thar is a powerful car in the 4X4 segment. It was launched in 2010. At that time, this vehicle used to compete with Maruti Suzuki’s Gypsy 4X4.
The current variant of Thar available in the country was launched in October 2020. It received updates such as petrol engine, automatic transmission, look updates on the outside, more connected and upmarket cabin.
In January this year, the company also launched the affordable RWD variant of this Car.
Mahindra Thar comes in a boxy look.
Talking about the design, the Mahindra Thar gets a boxy look with a black grill and a wide air dam. It gets body-Colored B-pillars, indicator-mounted ORVMs, alloy wheels on the sides.
It also comes with LED daytime running lights (DRL), LED taillights and halogen headlamps. Talking about dimensions, this car has a length of 3,985mm, width 1,855mm and wheelbase of 2,450mm.
Thar comes with two engine options.
Mahindra Thar comes in a choice of 2 engines with BS6 Phase-II norms. First it gets 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine, which is capable of delivering 150bhp power as well as 320Nm torque.
On the other hand, it gets a 2.2-liter m-hawk diesel engine, which generates 130bhp power as well as 300Nm torque. For transmission, both the engines are conning choice of 6-speed manual and automatic torque converter gearboxes.

Currently, Mahindra Thar RWD price starts at Rs. 10.54 Lakh. While the top 4X4 model will cost you Rs 16.48 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). This vehicle competes with the Force Gurkha in Indian market.
