Mercedes-Benz has officially discontinued its Mercedes-Benz GLB model in India. The company has removed this car from its website.
The GLB was the most affordable 7-seater vehicle in the Mercedes lineup, with a starting price of ₹63.8 lakh (ex-showroom). It was sold through the Complete Built Unit (CBU) route.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB was available in three variants: the 200 Progressive, 220d 4MATIC, and 220d AMG Line 4MATIC.
In this article, we will discuss the features of this 7-seater car and the reasons behind its discontinuation.

Features of the Mercedes-Benz GLB
Design
The Mercedes-Benz GLB features a bold and boxy design inspired by the larger GLS, giving it a rugged yet premium appeal. The SUV showcases a signature twin-slat grille with the iconic Mercedes emblem, roof rails, and sporty alloy wheels. At the rear, sleek LED tail lamps and a sculpted bumper enhance its robust charm while maintaining the elegance typical of a Mercedes-Benz.

Engine
The GLB was offered with both petrol and diesel engine options in India. It featured a 1.3L turbo-petrol engine and a 2.0L diesel engine, both paired with either a 7-speed or an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
The Mercedes-Benz GLB boasts a top speed of up to 217 km/h, providing strong highway performance. Its fuel efficiency varies by variant: the diesel automatic offers up to 16 km/l, while the petrol automatic provides approximately 9.7 km/l, according to ARAI ratings.

Cabin
The cabin of the Mercedes-Benz GLB is designed for luxury and versatility. It features dual 10.25-inch digital displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, 64-color ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof that enhances the spacious feel.
The interior includes dual-tone upholstery, powered front seats with ventilation, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Additional amenities consist of multiple drive modes, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and seven airbags, ensuring both comfort and safety for all occupants.
Why Has This Car Been Discontinued?
The main question arises: despite being an affordable 7-seater luxury car, why has the company removed this model from its Indian lineup? The GLB was sold as a CBU import, and due to the high import duties associated with this route, the price of the model increased, impacting its sales.
Additionally, Mercedes launched an updated hybrid version of the GLB with a 48V hybrid engine in 2023, which has not yet been introduced to the Indian market.
Some reports suggest that the company is planning to launch this new model in India and has decided to discontinue the current generation before its introduction.
