The Jimny and Swift models from Maruti Suzuki were going to be rebadged and added to the portfolio by Japanese automaker Toyota. However, Maruti Suzuki has declined this. Toyota will therefore not release a rebadged version of these two potent machines.
As per the sources in the Maruti Suzuki Company say that both these models are an integral part of its DNA, which are not meant to be shared. Selling them with Toyota badge may dilute their popularity and as a result there sales may also decline.
Itβs understandable that Maruti Suzuki would want to protect the unique identity and popularity of their models like the Jimny and Swift.
Those cars hold a special place in their lineup, and diluting their brand recognition might indeed affect their sales. Sometimes, maintaining exclusivity and preserving the distinctiveness of certain models can be crucial for a companyβs overall market strategy.
Why Toyota want a rebadge Jimny?
Toyota aims to release its iteration of the lifestyle SUV Maruti Suzuki Jimny, considering it as a more affordable 4Γ4 option compared to the expensive Fortuner, which has seen reluctance in purchases due to its high cost.
Conversely, some view that collaborating with Toyota on the Jimny might assist Maruti Suzuki in increasing its sales. This is prompted by a decline in the Jimnyβs sales post its initial positive reception.
The anticipated Toyota model based on the Swift is projected to drive up sales
Toyota aims to boost sales by rebranding the Maruti Suzuki Swift, a vehicle that typically sells over 17,000 units monthly. This move is anticipated to drive a 25 percent increase in the Japanese companyβs sales.
This collaboration between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota has already seen the launch of various rebadged models like the Baleno and Glanza, Ertiga and Rumion, as well as the Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider under their partnership.
